Adding a CNAME Record in GoDaddy

If your domain is managed through GoDaddy, you’ll need to add a CNAME record to connect your podcast website to PodcastAI.

Important to note: GoDaddy does not support CNAME flattening, which means you cannot point your root domain (e.g. yourdomain.com) directly to PodcastAI using a CNAME. Instead, you must use the www subdomain. This guide walks you through the correct setup.

Before you begin

Make sure you have:

  • Access to your GoDaddy DNS settings

  • Your custom domain name

  • The PodcastAI destination address:

    podcastai-portal-h7f8c.ondigitalocean.app

Step 1: Log in to GoDaddy

  1. Go to godaddy.com and sign in.

  2. From your account dashboard, select My Products.

  3. Find your domain and click DNS or Manage DNS.

Step 2: Add the CNAME record

In the DNS Records section:

  1. Click Add.

  2. Select CNAME as the record type.

  3. Enter the following values:

Field

Value

Type

CNAME

Name / Host

www

Value / Points to

podcastai-portal-h7f8c.ondigitalocean.app

TTL

Default

  1. Click Save.

Step 3: Do not use the root domain (important)

Because GoDaddy does not support CNAME flattening:

  • ❌ Do not create a CNAME for @ or yourdomain.com

  • ✅ Always use www.yourdomain.com

Your podcast website will live at:

https://www.yourdomain.com

Step 4: Optional — redirect root domain to www

To avoid confusion for visitors, it’s recommended to redirect:

yourdomain.com → www.yourdomain.com

This can be done using:

  • GoDaddy forwarding settings or

  • A redirect rule if you’re using an external DNS or proxy service

Step 5: Wait for DNS propagation

DNS changes typically take:

  • A few minutes to a few hours

  • In some cases, up to 24 hours

Once propagation is complete, your domain will connect automatically to PodcastAI.
